William Adams was born in Petersfield, Hampshire. A Harness Maker by occupation, he attested for the 11th Hussars at London on 13 January 1845, aged 19 years. With the regiment he served two years, one month in the Crimea and 2 years 4 months in the East Indies. For his services he was awarded the Crimea Medal with clasps for Alma, Inkermann and Sebstopol; the Turkish Crimea Medal and the Army L.S. & G.C. with a gratuity of £5. He was discharged to a pension at his own request on 28 January 1869. With copied service papers and L.S. & G.C. roll extract.
