Ernest Dowsett was born in Colchester, Essex in 1877. During the Boer War he served in the 1st Essex Artillery, City Imperial Volunteers.

With a colourful ‘The City’s Roll of Honour’ - the roll of the City of London Imperial Volunteers - which includes the name ‘Dowsett, E. J.’ - a little foxed and damaged. Also with some copied research including roll extract.
