Corporal Harold Stanley Booth, West Yorkshire Regiment received his commission on 28 May 1915. As a 2nd Lieutenant in the 11th Battalion, attached 8th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment he entered France on 29 May 1916. He was killed in action on 1 July 1916 - the first day of the battle of the Somme. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

Sergeant Herbert Booth, 20th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment received his commission on 25 October 1916. As a 2nd Lieutenant in the 12th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 3 May 1917. He was buried in the Faubourg d’Amiens Cemetery, Arras.

The two brothers were the sons of Mrs H. Booth, of 41 Shipley Fields Road, Frizinghall, near Bradford, West Yorkshire. They are believed to be the grandsons of Colour Sergeant Anthony Clarke Booth, 80th Regiment, who won the Victoria Cross at the Intombi River, 12 March 1879.
