ORDER OF THE BATH, C.B., Military, silver gilt and enamel neck badge; 1914-15 STAR (Lieut.); BRITISH WAR and VICTORY MEDALS (Lieut.); DEFENCE and WAR MEDALS; CORONATION 1937; U.S.A., LEGION OF MERIT, Officer, breast badge; Chile, ORDER OF MERIT, Commanders neck badge in silver gilt and enamel, this with very slight enamel damage, very fine and better (9)

Rear Admiral (E) Clement Ellis entered the Royal Navy under the 'Selbourne Scheme' for Executive and Engineering officers in 1905. His First World War service included the battleships Thunderer, Agamemnon and Malaya. He was Technical Adviser to the Chilean Navy, 1930-32, and for his services was made a Commander of the Order of Merit. The award of the Legion of Merit was announced in the London Gazette, 15 October, 1946 for 'services as Engineer-in-Chief, Washington, U.S.A.'. Admiral Ellis was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George VI in 1946 and created a Companion of the Bath in 1949.
