D.S.O. London Gazette 8 March, 1918, James Vandeleur Creagh, Commander, R.N. 'For services in destroyer and torpedo boat flotillas during the period ending 31 December, 1917.' Invested with the D.S.O. by the King at Harwich 26 February, 1918.

Lieutenant-Commander Creagh commanded the destroyer 'Ariel' at the chase and destruction of the German submarine 'U12' off the Firth of Forth 10 March, 1915. He received a Letter on Vellum expressing the approbation of the Admiralty for his services in these operations. He was promoted Captain, 1923, and commanded the 1st Destroyer Flotilla, 1925-7; on staff at the Royal Navy War College, 1928-30; H.M.S. Egmont, 1931-33; Senior Naval Officer, Persian Gulf, 1933-35; A.D.C. to the King, 1935; Creagh was promoted Rear-Admiral in 1935 and retired in the same year.
