Charles Leigh Lye was born at Ahmednugger on 28 January, 1861, and joined the regiment on 10 May, 1882. He served in the Egyptian campaign and was present at the engagement at El Magfar and Tel el Mahuta, both actions at Kassassin, battle of Tel-el-Kebir, and the affair of August 25th, 1882. He resigned his commission early in 1889 and remained on the Reserve of Officers with the rank of Captain.
