A C.M.G. group of seven to Colonel J. Attenborough, 2nd London Regiment, Commanding Officer of the Regiment on the Somme and at Arras

THE MOST DISTINGUISHED ORDER OF ST. MICHAEL AND ST. GEORGE, C.M.G., silver gilt and enamel, officially converted from breast to neck badge, some enamel damage to both centres, in its Garrard case of issue; 1914-15 STAR TRIO, M.I.D. (Lt. Col., 2/Lond. R.); DEFENCE AND WAR MEDALS; TERRITORIAL DECORATION, G.V.R., these last six mounted as worn, very fine (7)

Colonel James Attenborough C.M.G. (1915), T.D., was born in August 1884, and was educated at Rugby. He served in the European War 1914-18, in command of the 2nd (City of London) Battalion, The London Regiment and led the regiment into the Ypres salient, June 1915; the Battalion took part in consolidating the positions gained after the attack north and west of Hooge, 9-10th August, 1915, and in the attack on the Gommecourt Salient on the 1st July 1916. Attenborough continued to command during the push of the 56th Division of Ginchy, the battle of Arras and the first battle of the Scarpe, 1917. He was three times mentioned in despatches and awarded the C.M.G. Colonel Attenborough served during the War of 1939-45, and commanded 9th Bu. Royal Fusiliers (T.F.) and Halton Camp R.A.F. He was Hon. Colonel of 684 L.A.A. Regt., Royal Fusiliers (T.F.). By profession a solicitor, he was keen on shooting and golf, and was still listed in Who's Who 1984, in his 100th year.
