D.C.M., London Gazette 15th November 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when his Battery coming into action was heavily shelled he showed great resource in getting the detachment to a flank. Later when the S.O.S. message was received, he brought the men back to the guns and set a magnificent example of coolness and complete desregard for his own safety.’
