ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE, OBE. (Military) 1st type; MILITARY CROSS, G.V.R.; INDIA GENERAL SERVICE 1908-35, 1 clasp, Abor 1911-12 (Lieut. 2/8th Gurkha Rfls.); BRITISH WAR AND VICTORY MEDALS, M.I.D. (Capt.); JUBILEE 1935; CORONATION 1937; together with a wooden revolver grip inlaid with engraved silver escutcheon (B.P.R.A. All India Revolver Championship. Won by Lieut. E.J. Ross, 2/ 8 Gurkha Rifles), the group mounted on a contemporary wearing bar, nearly very fine or better (7)
Colonel Edward Johnson Ross, O.B.E. (1926), M.C. (1918), was born in 1884 and entered the Indian Army in 1904. He served with the 2/8th Gurkha Rifles in the operations in the Abor country in 1911-12 and received the medal with clasp. During the European War he served in Egypt from February to April 1916, and in Iraq from April, 1916 to November, 1918. He was twice mentioned in despatches, London Gazette 15th August, 1917 and 21st February, 1919. He was promoted to Colonel in 1932, Brigade Commander in 1936 and appointed A.D.C. to the King in 1938.
