Enlisted 8th July, 1912. Served overseas from 3rd February, 1915, as Sergeant in No. 1 Squadron. Promoted Temp. S.M. (T) on 1st March, 1918 and was Acting Chief Master Mechanic in the 1918 R.A.F. Muster Roll (ref. 'A Contemptible Little Flying Corps' by I. Mclnnes and J.V. Webb).
