Louis Silver was born in the Parish of Sutton, near Winchester, Hampshire, and enlisted on 13 December 1870, aged 17. After 27 years and three months’ service in the 2nd Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, he was recommended for the M.S.M. in March 1898. It was finally announced in Army Order 422 of 1921, with an Annuity of £10.
