The Waterloo Medal awarded to Captain James Day, Royal Horse Artillery, three times wounded during his service with the historic 'Chestnut Troop'

WATERLOO 1815 (Lieut, Royal Horse Artillery) fitted with original steel clip and hinged silver bar suspender, some light edge bruises, otherwise toned good very fine and scarce

James Day entered the army in 1808 and served initially in 'M' troop, R.H.A., until he was transferred to 'A' troop, under Captain, later Field-Marshal, Sir Hew Ross. This, the 'Chestnut Troop' was probably the most distinguished of all troops that served in the Peninsula and at Waterloo. James Day was wounded at the siege of St. Sebastian and severely at Nivelle. At Waterloo Ross's troop was engaged at La Haye Sainte in the thick of the fighting throughout the day, and Lieutenant Day was once again wounded. He retired on half pay as 2nd Captain, on 3 February, 1828, and died in Jersey, 1 August, 1842.

6 Medals for Waterloo to officers in the 'Chestnut Troop'.
