WATERLOO 1815 (John Oldham, 1st or Royal Dragoons) fitted with steel clip and ring suspender, small edge bruise, otherwise better than very fine
John Oldham had his arm fractured near the shoulder joint at Waterloo where his regiment made a memorable charge against a French column of 4, 000 men, emerging after a desperate fight with the Eagle of the 105th regiment. Oldham, a weaver from Middleton in Lancashire joined the regiment in 1804, serving in Captain Carden's troop at Waterloo. As a result of his wounds received on the 18th June, he was discharged on the 24th October, 1815 and admitted to Chelsea Hospital as a pensioner on 24th June, 1816.
