D.S.O., London Gazette, 12 March, 1917: Major Herbert Duckworth Wilson, Royal Field Artillery. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He maintained observation throughout the day under very heavy fire. He was wounded on three different occasions during the day, but remained at his observation post until the light failed and his work was accomplished. He has on many previous occasions done fine work. '

Lieutenant-Colonel Wilson was from Bolton-le-Sands in Lancashire.
