D.F.C., London Gazette, 29 August, 1952, 'In recognition of distinguished service in Malaya.' Fewer than 100 D.F.C's with the 2nd type G.VI.R. cypher were awarded.
William Banks was born on 30 March, 1916, and commissioned into the Royal Air Force, 3 July, 1942. He was promoted Flight Lieutenant, 10 August, 1947 and retired 27 March, 1962. He served mainly as a Navigator, and at the end of his career in Fighter Control.
