D.C.M., London Gazette, 31 May, 1940. The following information was provided by Colonel R.H. Senior who was Adjutant of the battalion in 1940: 'He (Warren) was one of five who received immediate awards. There were no citations and were not published until 1940. I think it was his outstanding command and control of his platoon throughout the period in France, whether it was in Lye Les Lannoy our original defensive position or our months stay in the Maginot Line when we were in the Ligne de Contact in February with heavy snow on the ground; or the move up to Brussels and the withdrawal. When we stopped on the Estcaut Canal 'B' Company was in a forward position and completely under view from the enemy on the heights across the canal. These company positions were heavily mortared and shelled. With complete disregard for himself he gave heart to his platoon and other men in the vicinity. This was the first heavy fire the battalion had to stand. Warren was wounded and had to be evacuated on 20th May, 1940.' Warren was commissioned Lieutenant in the Royal Norfolk Regiment 21 September, 1940; W.S. Captain 4 November, 1946; Temp. Major 4 November, 1946; Temp. Lieutenant- Colonel 14 January, 1948.
