A Heavy Brigade group of three to Private Thomas Powell, 1st Royal Dragoons

CRIMEA 1854-55, 3 clasps, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol (Royal Dns.) contemporary engraved naming; TURKISH CRIMEA, Sardinian issue, named, fitted with replacement ring suspension; ARMY L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue (988, 1st Dragoons) officially impressed naming, contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine (3)

Thomas Powell, a painter from London, inlisted for the 1st Dragoons at Westminster on 12 August, 1846, at the age of 17 years and 11 months. He served with the regiment in the Crimea and was present at all actions where the regiment was engaged, including the battle of Balaklava where the 1st Dragoons formed part of the Heavy Brigade. He was awarded the medal for long service and good conduct, with a gratuity of £5, in 1868, and was discharged on 5th August, 1871. Thomas Powell served as a Private throughout his 24 years in the regiment and earned five good conduct badges. Sold with copy discharge papers and verification of all medals and clasps.
