A Light Brigade Charger's group of three awarded to Lance-Corporal Thomas Harrison, 11th Hussars

Thomas Harrison rode in the charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava and was awarded the French Military Medal, the citation for which states 'Present at the battles of Alma and Balaklava, where he behaved very gallantly in galloping to the rescue of several comrades who were fighting against overwhelming odds. Was also present at the battle of Inkermann. Served the campaign in Bulgaria, in 1854, and was present at the affair of Bouljanak, and throughout the campaign in the Crimea from 1854 to 1856.In 'The Medal Rolls of the XI (Prince Albert's Own) Hussars' compiled by The Rev. W.M.Lumis, M.C., he notes that an engraved medal, dated 1855, was sold at Glendining's on 23 June, 1932, the property of a descendant. This same medal was sold by Wallis & Wallis in1964, and as a group was latterly in the collection of the late Father Ralph Fitzpatrick, California, U.S.A.
