Captain Clement William Hawkins served with the Royal Marine Battalion defending Suakin and was engaged in the operations in the Eastern Soudan, 1884-85. He was present at the actions at Hasheen, 20th March, 1885; attack on Sir J. McNiel's zareba, Tofrek, 22nd March; the attack of the square of Guards and Marines, 24th March, and at the taking and burning of Tamaai, 3rd April, 1885. Captain Hawkins retired on 2nd April, 1886.
