An R.N.L.I. pair for the Fishguard Gold Medal Service awarded to Life-boat man John Rourke

MERCANTILE MARINE WAR MEDAL 1914-18; ROYAL NATIONAL LIFE BOAT INSTITUTION, Bronze Medal, G.V.R. (J. Rourke, Voted 17th December 1920) this last with some severe edge bruising, otherwise very fine and scarce (2)

Awarded for the rescue of the crew of the three-masted Dutch motor schooner Hermina on the night of 2 December 1920. For this service the Gold Medal was awarded to Coxwain John Howells, silver medals to the Second Coxwain and two other crew members, the remaining members of the crew each receiving the bronze medal. An additional monetary reward was also given to every member of the crew of the Fishguard Life-boat.
