Three: Commander S.T.S. Lecky, Master in Command of the Transport Ship 'British Prince'
EGYPT 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (Mr., 'British Prince'); Portugal, MILITARY ORDER OF CHRIST, Officer's breast badge in gold and enamels; KHEDIVE'S STAR 1882, mounted as worn, nearly extremely fine and scarce (3)
Squire Thornton Stratford Lecky was born in 1838. Information supplied by a descendant states that he formerly served in the Indian Navy and died in 1902 as Commander, Royal Naval Reserve. His name, however, is not listed in the Royal Navy lists. As Master in command of the British Ship Owners Company vessel 'British Prince' he participated in the Egyptian War of 1882, his vessel having been requisitioned as a Transport. As only the Masters of these transport ships were eligible for the medal, each is unique. A total of 105 medals, all without bar, were awarded to Masters. For the Albert Medal group awarded to his son see lot 440.
