Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Charles Anderson was born on 12 March 1883. A Cambridge scholar, he studied medicine at St. Thomas' Hospital and became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1908. The following year he was commissioned into the I.M.S., receiving promotion to Captain in 1912 and Major in 1921. He was still serving, as a Lieutenant-Colonel, in 1930.
