M.M., London Gazette, 9 December ,1916 George Dawes was born in Birmingham and enlisted for the 1/6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment in Birmingham. He was killed in action on 19 August 1916, when the regiment was consolidating its attack of the previous day on Ovillers, near Thiepval.
