MILITARY GENERAL SERVICE 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Talavera (J. White, Sergeant Major, 23rd Light Dragoons) very fine

Ex Blair collection 1937.

James White was born in Sarksley, Essex, and enlisted in the 23rd Light Dragoons in March 1803. He served in Portugal and Spain from June 1809 to March 1810, and for 8 months in Flanders and France during the campaign of 1815. At the battle of Waterloo he fought in Captain Cox's troop. White was discharged in 1817 but re-enlisted firstly into the 19th Lancers and subsequently into the 6th Dragoons. He was promoted Troop Sergeant Major in September 1825 and was finally discharged on 12 March 1831.
