MILITARY GENERAL SERVICE 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Albuhera (George Small, Serjt. 57th Foot) with original ribbon with sewn button-hole, very fine

George Small, a labourer from Lanarkshire, enlisted into the 89th Foot in 1793. He transferred to the 8th Foot in 1795 and to the 57th Foot in 1796. He served in Spain and Portugal from June 1810, being present at Albuhera with the 57th where they gained the sobriqué 'The Die Hards.' Small is listed as 'missing' on the muster rolls from November 1812, until June 1814, when he is then listed as a 'prisoner of war since 17th November 1812.'
