THE MOST NOBLE ORDER OF THE GARTER, The Elector of Saxony, Knight of the Garter 1678, silver medal struck at Dresden to commemorate the grand festival held there on St. George's Day, in honour of the Order of the Garter, 48mm., fitted ' with small loop for suspension, about very fine and scarce

Ref. Ml. 242. A similar medal was struck at Dresden in 1671 to commemorate the installation, at Windsor Castle, 29 May 1671, of John George II, Elector of Saxony, as a Knight of the Garter. The style of the inscription on these medals is similar to that found on stall plates of the Knights in St. George's Chapel, Windsor. It has been suggested that these medals were tickets of admission to the ceremonies but there is no proof to support this theory.
