France, 1939. France. Louise Hervieu, cast bronze plaquette, unsigned (by René Iché), facing head, date below to right, reverse flames escaping the hands of the artist, carnet de sante above (cf. CGMP IV (2), p.955). Extremely fine and a powerful design

Louise Hervieu (1874-1954), French writer and illustrator. René Iché (1897-1955), French sculptor, responsible for war memorials in Ouveillan, Puiseaux and Carcasonne. This design was used for a circular medal issued by the French Mint in 1951 - an example of which was aquired by the British Museum in 1982 (cf. British Museum Occasional Papers 42 - Aquisitions of Medals 1978-1982, no 81)
