D.S.O., London Gazette, 1 January, 1917. Leslie Murray served with the East Surrey Regiment and was present during the operations in Somaliland 1901. He was also one of only 15 European officers who took part in the operations against the Kissi tribes in Sierra Leone in 1905. Murray retired from the East Surrey Regiment in June 1914 and was placed on the Reserve of Officers. He took command of the 14th Warwicks in November 1915 and served with them in France and Italy. He was wounded at Nieppe and mentioned in despatches in 1916, 1917 and 1918.
