Hugh Arthur Powys-Jones was born in London and enlisted on 8 August, 1939. He served briefly with 101 Squadron before being posted to 15 Squadron on 24 May, 1940. He is first mentioned in the Squadron Operations Book on 27 May, when he was harrying the Germans on their advance to Dunkirk, his pilot being P/O Roberts, in a Blenheim. He took part in 16 similar operations through to the end of August. On 3 September he took part in a high-level attack on St Omer aerodrome. Whilst circling their own aerodrome on their return the plane crashed into a field killing all the crew: P/O Myland, Sgt. Powys-Jones, and Sgt. Petrie.
