D.C.M., London Gazette, 14 January 1916 (details 11 March 1916). 'For conspicuous coolness and bravery under fire. He has on all occasions set a fine example to those under him.'
Bar to D.C.M., London Gazette, 26 January, 1918. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in rescuing a wounded comrade from a burning dug-out. The dug-out had been set alight by an enemy shell, and this Warrant Officer, knowing that there was a considerable supply of bombs under the burning debris, immediately dashed up, at imminent danger of being blown up, and managed to extinguish the fire. Had he not taken these prompt and gallant measures the wounded man underneath the debris would undoubtedly have been blown up.’
