Captain Nelson Morris Price served in the ranks of the Welsh Regiment in the Dardanelles and Egypt 1915-1918. After the war he became a prominent figure within the British Legion, being a founder member of this organisation in Wales. He was responsible in 1936 in securing the patronage of King Edward VIII, who gave a speech to the unemployed remnants of the 1/5th Welsh Regiment. This visit by King Edward VIII to Merthyr, was his last public appearance in Britain as King. During the Second War Price served as a Captain in the Glamorgan Home Guard.
