A Great War O.B.E. group of four awarded to Surgeon Lieutenant H. C. C. Mann, Royal Navy

The Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) 1st type; 1914-15 Star (Surg. R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (Surg. Lt. R.N.) contact marks, therefore very fine (4) £140-180

Harold Charles Corry Mann was qualified LRCP & MRCS in 1903; MB 1904; BS 1905; MD 1906; MRCP 1907. He was appointed Surgeon (Temporary) on 3 August 1914, after which he had the following wartime appointments: R.N. Hospital, Portsmouth, 11 August 1914; H.M.S. Duncan, July 1915; R.N. Hospital, Malta, 7 February 1917; Osborne Naval College, August to September 1917; R.N. Hospital, Malta, 19 March 1918; retired March 1919.

Prior to the war he was a Consulting Physician at Evelina Hospital for Sick Children and St John’s Hospital, Lewisham. He was a Member of the Research Staff of the Medical Research Council, and had been a Medical Registrar, Tutor and Assistant Demonstrator of Pathology at Guy‘s Hospital. He was also the author of several papers on diet and nutrition. He died in 1961.
