M.M. London Gazette 25 April, 1918 (New Malden).
“On 27th Decenber 1917 at Ras El Tawil Ridge he was No 2 on the Lewis Gun Section under Sgt Cunliffe who put up a very stiff fight until whole post was killed or wounded. When withdrawing Rfn Chandler was told to bring the spare parts of the gun with him, and although he was shot through both legs he succeeded in carrying out the order, and brought back the spare parts to the support position 150 yards in the rear.” (Ref War Diary WO/95/4668).
