Charles Stuart Owen, 4th Bn. Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, served in the South African War in 1899-1901 as Commandant at Windsorton Road; took part in operations in Transvaal, October to December 1901; in Orange River Colony, December 1901 to May 1902; and in Cape Colony (Medal with clasp Cape Colony). On the outbreak of the Great War he joined the 5th (Service) battalion in Dublin and went with them to Gallipoli in July 1915. When the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel A. S. Vanrenan was killed on 15 August 1915, Owen, now a Major, assumed command. Shortly afterwards, however, he was severely wounded and would appear not to have served again with the 5th battalion. He was given a ‘B’ Mention on 28 August, 1919, with the 3rd battalion. Major Owen died at Monaco on 12 May 1946.
