William I (1066-1087), Penny, Profile Right type, Ipswich, Ægelric, ieg[–]lric on gipsp, 1.21g/3h (Harris, SCMB 1985, p.16, –; N 847; S 1256). Flan a trifle bent but portrait clear, fine, extremely rare of this mint and moneyer (£400-500)

Very few non-Paxs type pennies of William I are known for the mint of Ipswich: the moneyer Ægelbriht struck in BMC types 2, 4 and 5 and only the moneyer Ælfwine has been previously attested for the mint in type 7 (BMC 458). However, a moneyer by the name of Ægelric was active at Norwich in type 5 (BMC 357) and perhaps this man was also responsible for the present coin
