B.E.M. London Gazette 15 December, 1981: ‘For services in Northern Ireland during the period 1 May to 31 July, 1981.’
The lot is sold with a photograph of the recipient receiving the B.E.M., original certificate for the United Nations medal (approximately 230 British troops were present with the U.N. Force in Namibia), and nine original congratulatory letters, including ones from Princess Anne’s Private Secretary and Lieutenant General Sir Richard Lawson, the latter of which states: ‘This is a most fitting reward for your outstanding performance as NCO in charge of the Brigade Aerial Rigging Team, 39 Infantry Brigade Headquarters and Signal Squadron in Belfast from January 1979 to July 1981. Your courage, devotion to duty, leadership and example in this often dangerous and vital appointment, have been of the highest order.’
