A total of just 106 Baltic Medals were awarded to the British army.

Alexander Wallace was born in the Parish of Kilsyth, near Glasgow. By trade he was a miner and attested for the Sappers and Miners at Glasgow on 6 January 1845. He served abroad in Bermuda for 5 years 11 months; in the Baltic for 6 months, and was present at the taking of Bomarsund, for which he received the Baltic Medal; in the Crimea for 1 year 6 months, and was present at the Siege and Capture of Sebastopol, for which he received the Crimean War Medal with clasp and the Turkish Crimean Medal. He subsequently served at Gibraltar for 4 years 8 months. During his army career he was tried and imprisoned on seven occasions, usually for absence or habitual drinking but once for sleeping at his post. He was discharged at Chatham on 7 January 1863 due to lameness of his left thigh. Sold with copy discharge papers.
