Served in the ranks of the Royal Engineers and commissioned in the Rifle Brigade, 25 September 1917. Joined the 7th (Service) Battalion 29 November 1917 and posted to the 2nd Battalion on 12 April 1918. Missing, subsequently presumed Killed in Action, 23 April 1918, on a reconnoitring patrol at Villers Brettoneux and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial.

Additionally entitled to 1914-15 Star.
