Walter Nelson Bone was born at West Norwood, Surrey, and enlisted at Bury. He was killed in action during the Gallipoli Landings on 25 April 1915 whilst serving with the 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. It was during these landings that the regiment gained the award of the famous ‘six before breakfast’ Victoria Crosses.
