Extract from the Society’s 72nd Annual Report for the year ending 1st July 1911: ‘Silver Marine Medal and illuminated Vote of Thanks to Captain Robert Owen, of the S.S. Inventor; Silver Marine Medal, binoculars, and Vote of Thanks to Chief Officer Mr G. Mills; Silver Marine Medal, binoculars and vote of thanks to Harold Collins, Third Officer; and £2 to each of the A.B.’s in the boat: For the gallant rescue of the crews of the Spanish schooners Marta and Hugo on the 18 October 1910 in the neighbourhood of Key West. Very serious difficulties had to be surmounted in the rescue work, both vessels being so situated as to make a close approach impossible. Thanks however to the courage, seamanship and perseverance, the crews (15 in number) were safely got aboard the Inventor without a single casualty.’
