Three: Private Jabez Cave, 80th Regiment

Sutlej 1845-46, for Moodkee 1845, 2 clasps, Ferozeshuhur, Sobraon (Jabez Cave, 80th Regt) name re-engraved; India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Pegu (Jabez Cave, 80th Regt.); Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Jabez Cave, 80th Regt.) together with two original Army account books, all medals fitted with contemporary engraved silver ribbon brooches, the first two with contact marks, good fine or better, the last very fine (3) £300-350

Jabez Cave was born at Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and enlisted for the 80th Regiment at Trowbridge in 1840. He embarked at Gravesend in September 1840, landed at New South Wales on 3 February 1841, and later proceeded to India where he landed on 16 November 1844. He served in the campaign on the Sutlej and was present in the following General Actions: at Moodkee the 18th, and Ferozeshah 21 & 23 Decr. 1845, & Sobraon 10th Feby. 1846. Served with the Army in Burmah in 1852 & 3, and was present at the Storming & Capture of Martaban 5th of April & Storming & Capture of Rangoon 11th, 12th, 13th & 14th April. Storming & Capture of Pegu 5th June & at the Capture of Prome 9th of Octr. & at the night attack of the enemy on the Camp at Prome 9th Decr. 1852. Served in Oudh in 1858 & 59. Discharged unfit for service on 3 July 1862. This information is taken from his account books.
