Henry Brewster Percy Lion Kennedy was educated at Eton and joined the King’s Royal Rifle Corps in 1898. He served in South Africa 1899-1902 with his regiment, and on the staff of Lieut.-General Sir W. Pitcairn Campbell, K.C.B., and Major-General F. V. Wing, C.B.; operations in Natal in 1899 and 1900, including action at Laing’s Nek; in the Transvaal, including actions at Belfast and Lydenberg; and in the Orange River Colony (Queen’s medal with 4 Clasps, King’s medal with 2 Clasps). During the Great War he served as Adjutant of the 21st London Regiment (Surrey Rifles) until 1 September 1915, and thereafter in command of the regiment until16 May 1917. He subsequently commanded 140th Infantry Brigade, and 2nd Rhine Brigade (despatches seven times, D.S.O., C.M.G., Brevets of Lieutenant-Colonel and Colonel, Grand Officer Military Order of Avis and Grand Officer Tower and Sword of Portugal, Croix de Guerre with palm). Brigadier-General Kennedy went on retired pay in 1927, and was re-employed from 1939 to 1942 as a King’s Messenger. He died on 8 December 1953.
