Thomas Coonan was born at Ogomelloc, Killaloe, County Clare, and enlisted at Llanelly, Glamorganshire. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 7 May 1918 whilst serving with the 4th Battalion, Guards Machine Gun Regiment. He is buried at Gommecourt Wood New Cemetery, Foncquevillers, France.
