Peiree Butler was born in Bow, London, on 8 January 1858. He enlisted at Walmer in Number 5 Company on 8 February 1876 as a Private R.M., having previously worked as a labourer. He served aboard COCKATRICE (May to August 1881), TEMERAIRE (August to December 1881), ANTELOPE (January 1882 to February 1884), EURYALUS for R.M. Battalion Egypt (8 February 1884 to 11 May 1884), and PEMBROKE (1884-88). He was discharged after serving a limited engagement on 17 February 1888, and was never entitled to a L.S. & G.C. medal.
