Originally recommended for the M.S.M. on 22 August 1915 some ten years after he had been pensioned. The Admiralty approved the award on 25 July 1944, with payment of the annuity ante-dated to 18 May 1944, the medal being issued on 6 September 1944. He was born on 29 August 1864 at Malton, Yorkshire, and enlisted on 9 August 1884 in the Chatham Division. His sea time was minimal. He was promoted to Corporal in January 1887 to Sergeant in March 1891 and to Colour Sergeant on 19 November 1901. He was awarded his L.S. & G.C. medal on 23 September 1894 and pensioned on the 11 August 1905. He was mobilised on 2 August 1914 to serve with the Royal Naval Division at Crystal Palace from June 1915 until 1 January 1918 and demobilised on 20 May 1919. He died in May 1952.
