D.C.M. London Gazette 10 January 1920. “For conspicuous gallantry and initiative during the attack near Trescault on 27th September 1918. Soon after the start, all the officers and many senior non-commissioned officers in the company became casualties. He was the mainstay of the company, reorganising the men under heavy fire and leading them forward.”
