Conspicuous Service Cross, E.VII.R., the reverse with hallmarks for London 1901, the maker’s mark obliterated and the reverse field of the cross ‘scored’, fitted with a replacement suspension ring, otherwise with contact marks, nearly very fine and very rare

It would appear that this C.S.C., apparently a perfectly genuine striking by Garrard & Co, has been deliberately disfigured probably in order that it could not be passed off as an original issued piece, possibly for a museum display.
