Evelyn John Janes Southby served afloat during the Great War in command of H.M.S. Petunia, ‘Flower’ Class sloop, in patrol and minesweeping operations in the Mediterranean and Adriatic, from April 1916 to September 1918. He was subsequently the first Officer Instructor to the Ulster Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve when that Division was formed in 1924. He retired in 1925 and died on 27 March 1937. Sold with research including copy photographs of five ships that he served aboard.
