G.M. London Gazette 17 January 1941. ‘When the hospital was hit during an enemy air raid, Mr. S. R. Campbell-Little, the chief engineer, although blown down by the blast from the bomb and struck by a flying steel shutter which damaged one ankle and fractured one rib, immediately dashed into the boiler house and shut off the fires, the water cocks, and the gas mains, thus preventing a gas fire and the explosion of the boilers. But for this action a fire would also almost certainly have broken out.’
