M.M. London Gazette 5 October 1944.

‘For Marked Gallantry in Action. At SAUSAGE in the IMPHAL area on the 24th June 1944, Sepoy Hadi Gul was a rifleman in a platoon which was in the perimeter of a company defended area.

Enemy attacked the position early in the evening preceeded by a heavy 3-inch mortar barrage. The attack failed and the enemy were driven back, but the enemy tried again and again throughout the night to take the position. The main thrusts of the attack were against the North Flank of the perimeter defended by No 2 platoon. Owing to enemy 3-inch mortar fire heavy casualties were suffered by this platoon and a part of the communication trench to the RAP had been blown in making it difficult to evacuate casualties.

Realising that unless some of the more seriously wounded were brought in for attention they would die, Sepoy Hadi Gul with complete disregard for his own personal safety over a period of four hours during intervals between the attacks, carried no less than six severely wounded men back to the RAP from his platoon area, the area the whole way being under heavy mortar and machine gun fire. Throughout Sepoy Hadi Gul displayed courage and determination of the highest order, his prompt action being directly responsible for the saving of six lives.’
